‘The $60m man’: Labor donor was key player in landmark bribery scandal

A 92-year-old businessman who was the largest individual donor to federal Labor ahead of last year’s federal election was central 30 years ago to one of Singapore’s biggest bribery scandals.

Annual disclosures published by the Australian Electoral Commission this week show Peng Siong Lee donated $50,000 to federal Labor in 2024-25. It was the first time his name had appeared on the AEC’s register of donations.
