Marketing executive Andrew Raso wakes early, views sunlight, drinks saltwater and walks on the grass. Then he takes a cocktail of peptides: one for faster recovery, one to repair joints, one to repair skin and two to release more human growth hormone and get better sleep. None are proven to work in humans, but some have promising preclinical data and Raso is convinced they give him an edge.

For him, it’s not just about avoiding sickness but optimising performance. Raso says he feels great 99 per cent of the time and that too many people “normalise being tired every day”.
