Why you should treat your blankets like fine art

No longer confined to the bedroom, artisanal throws have become design objects in their own right. Meet the brands bringing culturally inspired comforts into the home.

Designer blankets – festooned with Hermès’ signature monogram, Dior’s classic Toile de Jouy print or an equestrian-inspired Gucci pattern – have for the past few years been typical hallmarks of luxury in interior design.

Statement blankets are now heading in a more crafty direction, however, with local producers and indigenous artisans heralding a new wave in the interior design trend. These are artfully draped over the arms of lounges, precisely styled over the backs of armchairs, delicately poking out of baskets, flung over decorative ladders – and some are even taking pride of place as artworks on walls.
