WA government backflips, extends Griffin Coal five-year lifeline

The West Australian government has backflipped on its vow to end financial support for struggling Indian-owned miner Griffin Coal, extending its state agreement by five years over concerns about the state’s energy security.

The agreement, which is yet to be finalised, will allow the miner to continue operating the Ewington mine and supply coal to industry and the Bluewaters power station.
